Five on Friday: Leadership Spotlight

We’re here with another “Five on Friday.” This month we’re introducing you to cofounder Will Brugh (WB). Will leads the finance, funding and hiring functions for Rent Ready. He has broad experience in finance management. Prior to co-founding Rent Ready, he spent time at Jefferies & Company, Pamlico Capital and January Partners.

Rent Ready (RR): Were you always drawn to finance?  

WB: I’ve always been very analytical and numbers-oriented so finance was a natural fit. I also grew up in a very entrepreneurial family. I remember from a young age going to the cabinet manufacturing facility that my grandfather helped run where he would teach us about business and the impact business can have on a community and the lives of its employees. So, Rent Ready has really been the perfect combination of those passions.  

 

RR: You are also in charge of hiring the service pros who complete the end-to-end turns. What makes an exceptional pro?  

WB: Our pros are highly skilled and I have a great deal of respect for the amount of talent and hard work they put into their trade. The very best pros exhibit a combination of skill, pride in their work, communication, excellent customer service and reliability.  

 

RR: Can you give us a sneak peek into Rent Ready’s next steps for the future?  

WB: Our goal has always been to build a national platform that transforms the way the apartment industry gets homes ready to rent. We’ve spent the last few years launching core markets and perfecting our process and technology. We’re extremely excited about the foundation we’ve built and accelerating our pace of launching markets, as well as rolling out new technology that makes the process even more seamless for our customers and pros. 

 

RR: Which step of a turn would you want to complete if you were on the service pro side and why?  

WB: Oh, tough question. I’ve tried my hand at most and, to be honest, it was a humbling experience and part of why I have such great respect for our pros. I’m not sure I would be hired to do any of them, but if I had to choose, it would be clean. I really love completing a task and seeing the transformation of a home into one that is move-in ready.  

 

RR: Fun fact about yourself: go!  

WB: I have a pretty corny sense of humor -- so much so that colleagues at Rent Ready bought me a dad joke book. But, my two girls can attest, it hasn’t made me much funnier.
